Notes: Gilkey is a 4 year old, brindle, Shepherd mix looking for a very special home. Gilkey was adopted but was returned to the shelter because she is very fearful of men of all ages. Gilkey can be anxious when first approached but warms up to women pretty quickly. Gilkey is housebroken and does wonderful with other dogs. She actually would likely do better in a home with another dog. She is up to date on vaccinations, spayed and heartworm negative. Adoptions are on a first come first served basis. A Pet Adoption Application Form must be completed.

All of the animals at the shelter leave with age appropriate vaccinations and many have been spayed/neutered. If they have not, you will sign a contract stating that the animal you are adopting will be fixed. Dogs are heartworm tested and cats are FIV/FeLV tested. Animals are also dewormed and receive flea/tick treatment.

Male Dog = $55
Female Dog = $65
Payment is by Cash or Check. Checks should be made out to Goochland County Treasurer.

Adoption Requirements:

• Adoptions are currently by appointment only.
• Dogs that have not been neutered are only available to go to homes in Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, Chesterfield, Powhatan, Cumberland, Fluvanna and Louisa areas of Virginia.
• Dogs and cats must be either spayed or neutered within 30 days of adoption or reaching 6 months of age.
• A Goochland County Dog License must be purchased for any dog over 4 months of age.
• Dogs and cats must be vaccinated against rabies by a licensed veterinarian.
