Children: Not suitable for a home with small children

Cats: OK with cats

Notes: Very Shy Chi Mix, neutered male, about 5 years old. Needs to go to a home with no small children.

Adoptions are on a first come first served basis. A Pet Adoption Application Form must be completed.

All of the animals at the shelter leave with age appropriate vaccinations and many have been spayed/neutered. If they have not, you will sign a contract stating that the animal you are adopting will be fixed. Dogs are heartworm tested and cats are FIV/FeLV tested. Animals are also dewormed and receive flea/tick treatment.

Adoption Fees:
Male Dog = $55
Female Dog = $65
Payment is by Cash or Check. Checks should be made out to Goochland County Treasurer.

Adoption Requirements:
  • Adoptions are currently by appointment only.
  • Dogs that have not been neutered are only available to go to homes in Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, Chesterfield, Powhatan, Cumberland, Fluvanna and Louisa areas of Virginia.
  • Dogs and cats must be either spayed or neutered within 30 days of adoption or reaching 6 months of age.
  • A Goochland County Dog License must be purchased for any dog over 4 months of age.
  • Dogs and cats must be vaccinated against rabies by a licensed veterinarian.
